So, one thing you may not know about if you're not in business management or receiving health care through employment is HSAs are almost required. Just in case you dont know what this is:

HSA stands for Health Savings Account. It's something you set up through your employer to contribute to (like a 401k). It's intention is to cover medical expenses. Some employers match contributions (with a cap), and some dont. The deductible offered for workers with families in my company (after researching its very similar to other companies) is $5000. The HSA is supposed to help offset this extreme cost which is a direct result of the affordable healthcare act.

the good thing about HSAs is they are pre tax so its kind of like being able to itemize your medical expenses without having to hit the threshold or even if you don't itemize at all. but when you do itemize and expect to hit the threshold it sucks dick because those expenditures don't count toward the threshold

Which brings up a good point about access to your HSA. You can actually withdraw the entire sum in that account, but you will get taxed to shit in April if you do.
